TEMPLE (November 19, 2012)—The City of Temple’s Parks and Leisure Services Department is offering day camps for students during Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks and parents like Lora Farbo say they are taking advantage of these camps for their cost and convenience.

"It's frustrating to know with the economy the way it is having to find a babysitter," Farbo said.

Farbo said her fourth grader, Faith, rarely ever goes to a babysitter.

"Here you're in more of a group so you can do more activities than what two people can do," Faith said.

"If there's a day off in the middle of the week, with the program, they have the capabilities of taking care of them here at camp," Farbo said.

Robert "Peanut" Henderson, who started the day camps in Temple about 10 years ago, said the program has grown.

"Our economy is so bad right now, and so we try to make it to where it's basically affordable for all parents," Henderson said.

Farbo said the holiday day camps help her rest assured her child is safe and active while she's at work.

"I don't think that'd be good for me just sitting at home playing video games with my eyes on the TV," Faith said.

"I can't imagine what it would take for other moms and dads that have to look for a babysitter and not choose to go this way," Farbo said.
