TEMPLE (March 8, 2013)--The city of Temple received a check from the Temple Parks Foundation and Temple Founder Lions Club to construct a new amphitheater Thursday.

A request was also made to the city for $40,000 to match the $70,000 already raised for the amphitheater.

These funds would be used for an entry and to remodel restrooms.

The city will look for funding in the budget and it will be brought to council at a later date, Director of Communications Shannon Gowan said.

"We will be doing as much work as we can by department staff to ensure we meet the budget," Parks and Leisure Services Director Ken Cicora added.

"Lions Amphitheater" will be located in Lions Park in place of the old swimming pool.

"Developing an amphitheater at the site of the old swimming pool will be a great use of the site," Cicora said.

The amphitheater is scheduled to open mid-summer.
