TEMPLE (November 22, 2012)—Temple officials are urging residents not to pour fats, oil and grease from holiday cooking down the drain.
The “FOG” not only can clog home wastewater lines, but also chokes sewer mains in the wastewater system, which can lead to overflows, the city said.
Fats, oil and grease should be poured into a lidded container such as a coffee can and when the container is full it should be thrown in the trash.
Pans and other cooking containers with FOG residue should be wiped clean with paper towels, which then should be discarded.
