TEMPLE (September 24, 2012)—Ruben Vasek, 23, of Bartlett, remained in the Bell County Jail Monday in lieu of bonds totaling $85,500, charged with attempted burglary of a habitation, possession of a dangerous drug, possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, evading arrest or detention and driving with a suspended license.
The charges stem from a report Friday of a burglary in progress in the 800 block of John Paul Jones Drive in Temple where a man had broken out a window with a rock.
As officers arrived, a police K-9 unit spotted a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed and stopped the driver at the intersection of Chambers Drive and Bellmont Drive.
The driver bolted as the officer attempted to detain him and ran with both the officer and the police dog in pursuit.
The dog caught the man within a block, police said.
The man suffered minor injuries when he attempted to fight off the dog before the officer subdued and handcuffed him, police said.
Officers recovered marijuana and dangerous drugs during the arrest, police said.
