TEMPLE (October 31, 2012)--Ramon Rivera, 21, of Nixon was indicted Wednesday for intoxication manslaughter in a two-vehicle crash in September in Temple that claimed the life of Shelly Easter, 35, of Temple.

The accident happened just before 8:15 p.m. Sept. 29 at the intersection of West Avenue M and South 51st Street in Temple.

Police say Rivera was driving a blue SUV west on Avenue M at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the center lane, and slammed into the eastbound SUV that Easter was driving.

Easter died at the scene and the Rivera was taken to Scott & White Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

His blood-alcohol level was .13, higher than the state’s legal limit of .08.

He was served with the arrest warrant at the hospital and was taken to the Bell County Jail after his release from the hospital.

He remains jailed in lieu of $1 million bond.
