TEMPLE (February 19, 2013) ---A beer thief was at large Tuesday after he robbed a local Shell convenience store hitting the clerk with a beer can.
Temple police were sent to the Shell Convenience Store at 2512 South 5th St. Monday at around 11:30 p.m.
Temple police spokesman Christopher Wilcox said the shoplifting call was upgraded to a robbery because the man used force while committing the crime.
The clerk told officers that when he confronted the suspect the man reached toward his waistband on his pants as though he was armed, and then as he was fleeing the store the man hit him with a beer can.
The clerk had minor injuries and did not have to be treated by EMS.
The suspect was 5-feet to 5-feet-5-inches tall, weighed 150 pounds, and was wearing a white tank top, red sweatpants, and a backwards black and red baseball cap.
This is the second time this convenience store has been robbed this year.
On Jan. 14 Temple police responded to the same location after three men came into the store with handguns and demanded money.
Nobody was hurt.
No arrests have been made in that case.
