TEMPLE (January 18, 2014) Conner Park got ten new trees this morning courtesy of Temple Parks and Leisure. A handful of volunteers showed up around 9:00 this morning to help make the city a little greener.
Temple Parks and Leisure partnered with local Boy Scouts to complete the project. In all, twenty-five trees will eventually be planted at the park. This is an increase from last year's addition of fourteen trees to the park. These efforts will also extend to various other parks around Temple including Lion's Park, which will get sixty new trees.
This reforestation of the area is part of the city's Storm Water Management Plan, a project with the goal of reducing the erosion of soil into city waterways. By planting these new trees, soil erosion will be less likely to end up in the drinking water of Temple residents.
