TEMPLE (September 20, 2012)-The Mayor's Council on Physical Fitness and the City of Temple are participating in a statewide health initiative, "It's Time Texas," an H-E-B Community Challenge which encourages people to be active and live a healthier lifestyle.
The Challenge is an eight-week competition that pits cities and towns against each other to see who can mobilize the most healthy action.
"We know Temple is a healthy city, let's show everyone that Temple is the healthiest city in Texas," Temple Mayor Bill Jones said.
Members of the community, businesses, and organizations can register online.
"I have signed a pledge, Temple ISD is on board, now we need help encouraging businesses, organizations, and individuals to join the Challenge and let everyone know what healthy actions our community is taking," Jones said.
Individuals can register and input their fitness activities to enter to win prizes. Businesses and organizations can join by signing a pledge to commit to fitness and by helping organize health and fitness events.
According to the city, the program works on a point system and residents can visit the "Challenge" website to share their activities which helps build the community's overall score.
