TEMPLE (January 2, 2013)—A Central Texas man is facing charges of criminal mischief after breaking windows at a local restaurant and police station.

Just before 5:30 a.m. on Sunday morning Temple Police responded to a report that a man had damaged windows at The Olive Garden, at 3625 South General Bruce Dr.

After officers arrived on scene, they were told that the man threw rocks through two windows, damaging both.

The man then walked to a nearby McDonald’s and admitted to damaging the windows, police said.

According to reports, he asked employees to call police because he wanted to go to jail.

Officers detained Danny Wayne Gilkey, 35, of Temple for the offense of criminal mischief.

Gilkey went with officers to the police station to provide a statement about the damage to The Olive Garden. Police attempted to contact a representative of the restaurant, but were unable to locate one.

Because police were unable to locate a victim to represent the restaurant, officers were required to release Gilkey from custody and a warrant had to be obtained.

After being released, Gilkey went to the front of the station and threw rocks at the windows, police said, damaging three before officers took him into custody.

Damage to the police department is estimated to be $1,983.50.

Estimates for the damage to the Olive Garden windows are pending.
