TEMPLE (November 10, 2013) Police arrested four men after a brief chase late Thursday night in connection with an armed robbery in the laundry room of a local apartment complex.
Officers were dispatched to what first was reported as a man with a gun just before 10:40 p.m. Thursday, but then were advised that the call involved a robbery and that the victims were following the four suspects.
The officers converged on the fleeing suspects with the victims in pursuit and attempted to stop the vehicle in which the four suspects were riding, but the driver refused to pull over, police spokesman Cpl. Christopher Wilcox said Friday.
During the brief chase that followed, a handgun was thrown from the suspects’ vehicle in the 1200 block of South 49th Street before the driver finally stopped at the intersection of 45th Street and Avenue M, Wilcox said.
The semi-automatic handgun was recovered, and the four suspects were arrested and were taken to the Bell County Jail.
Aggravated robbery charges were filed Sunday against Patrick O'Neal, 19, Jeremy Oaties, 27, Deontavius Griffin, 26, Matthew Diaz, 18 all of Temple.
Each are being held on a $150,000 bond.
Investigators determined that one of the men approached one of the victims in the apartment laundry room and asked to borrow a cellphone, Wilcox said.
A short time later two more men approached and one pulled a gun and demanded the victim’s money, Wilcox said.
The three then fled and got into a vehicle where a fourth suspect was waiting, Wilcox said.
The victims jumped in another vehicle and followed the suspects while calling 911, Wilcox said.’
No one was hurt.
