Temple: Police Release Crime Stats For 2012, City Sees Overall Decrease In Crime

TEMPLE (June 25, 2013)--The Temple Police Department released Tuesday the Uniform Crime Reporting statistics for 2012.

Reports show that most violent crime types were on the decrease, however, aggravated assault went up from 74 cases reported in 2011 to 95 cases reported in 2012.

Only one murder was reported each in 2011 and in 2012.

The number of burglaries dropped by 21.7 percent and auto theft remained virtually the same with 80 cases reported in 2011 and 81 cases in 2012.

Property crimes dropped by 3.3 percent.

“Overall, our community experienced improved numbers with regard to crime, especially with respect to burglaries. I’m very pleased with this downward trend in crime. The Temple Police Department will continue to work diligently to prevent crimes, and solve those that are reported to us, in an effort to further improve upon our success in this area,” Police Chief Gary Smith said.
