TEMPLE (July 26, 2013)--The annual Tip-A-Cop event held Thursday at the Temple Texas Roadhouse restaurant brought in $2627.75 for the Special Olympics, a Temple Police spokesperson said Friday.

17 officers from the Temple Police Department and one officer from the Troy Police Department served as waiters, pouring drinks and delivering food.

Tips were received and t-shirts purchased with all proceeds benefiting the nonprofit organization.

It was a record amount raised and a record number of participating officers, a Temple Police spokesperson said.

The event also took place at Waco and Killeen restaurant locations, and preliminary results indicate that Temple received the most donations.

“It’s always a fun little competition to see who can bring in the most, but in the end, the true winners are the special athletes. Thanks to everyone’s generosity they will realize a dream and have a chance to participate in the games,” Temple Officer Mike Keating said.
