TEMPLE (March 1, 2013)--The annual Temple Trail Blazers Walking Challenge will begin Saturday at Lions Park.
The event challenges people of all ages to walk Temple trails and parks while gathering miles for the month-long competition.
Area residents can register at the ceremony which will be held at the park on Lions Park Road.
The ceremony will last from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
"This event helps bring the community together and explore all the wonderful trails and parks that Temple has to offer," Mayor Bill Jones said.
People registering Saturday will receive their trail log and map and prizes and giveaways will also be awarded while supplies last.
Registration for the challenge is not required to take part in the walking event.
Sponsors will give items away and t-shirts will be given to those walking along the trail.
"It's a great way for people of every age to get out, have some fun, and get fit," Trail Blazers Program Coordinator Lisa Potts said.
March scavenger hunts on designated trails on select Saturdays have been added to the event this year.
An awards ceremony will be held in April.
