WACO (February 21, 2013)--It took a 19th District Court jury just 15 minutes Wednesday to return two maximum sentences against a man jurors had just found guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child and indecency with a child.

State District Judge Ralph Strother stacked the life sentence on the continuous sexual abuse charge and the 20-year sentence on the indecency charge, and then remanded Jose Antonio Garcia Martinez to custody.

Martinez, 44, virtually lost any possibility of parole after the judge ordered the consecutive terms.

The young victim, who was a friend of the Martinez family, testified during the trial that beginning in 2008, when she was 9-years-old, the abuse began and it continued until 2011.

Another relative testified she had seen Martinez sexually assault the victim at least once.

Then during presentation of punishment testimony both the original victim and her sister testified they had been assaulted.
