WACO (July 3, 2014) Latasha Nicole Johnson, 22, was in the McLennan County Jail Thursday charged with two counts of abandoning/endangering a child after what started as an argument over custody.

Her bond had not been set Thursday morning.

At around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were sent to the 1100 block of Brook Circle where they found a man and a woman arguing over custody of two young children.

The man presented court documents that showed he was awarded custody and police told the woman she would have to abide by the court order, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

But the woman told the officers she had more recent papers that showed she had custody and she went to her car, ostensibly to get them, but then locked the doors and sped off with the two children inside the vehicle, Swanton said.

The woman later went to the Waco Police Department where she was arrested, Swanton said.
