WACO (February 26, 2013)--A man who police say drove his truck into the side of an apartment building and then fled officers only to injure himself in a jump from a parking garage was in custody Tuesday after he turned himself in.
Jeremy Blake Lopez, 19, was ordered held on a $5,000 bond charged with failure to stop and render aid in connection with a Feb. 8 incident that involved a truck being driven into a north Waco apartment building.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Tuesday officers were sent at about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 8 to an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Lake Shore Drive in response to a report that a truck had crashed into a building.
When officers arrived the pickup and the driver were gone but police later found it in a multi-story campus parking lot and a man lying in a ravine at the base of a nearby parking garage.
Swanton said the driver fell when he tried to jump from the parking garage to another building and misjudged the distance between the two.
Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Lopez and through his lawyer arranged for him to turn himself in.
Swanton said Lopez went to the McLennan County Jail early Tuesday morning and turned himself over to deputies.
