WACO (April 4, 2013)--A Waco man was named Wednesday in an indictment charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after an attack on a local woman.
Chris Dowdy, 26, remained in the McLennan County Jail ordered held on a $20,000 bond, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
He was arrested Feb. 17 after a woman was injured in a fight with her boyfriend following a car chase on Interstate 35.
Police were called at around 4:30 a.m. that day after the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries she suffered in an attack.
Officers determined that the chase and the assault happened after a man caught his girlfriend with another man inside a car outside the girlfriend's residence, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said at the time.
The woman and the man took off in her car and the boyfriend got in his car and gave chase.
As the two cars raced down Interstate 35 near New Road, the boyfriend began ramming his car into his girlfriend's car and eventually forced her to stop.
The man who was with the woman ran and has not been located, Swanton said.
The boyfriend beat the woman and forced her into his car, Swanton said.
She was eventually able to call for help, he said.
