WACO (December 13, 2012)-A Waco man pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute the drug.

U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith set Angel Gilbert Perales for sentencing on February 13, 2013.

A document presented in court indicates Perales was arrested in March after Waco police officers, including drug enforcement officers, encountered a large group of people on the street in the 800 block of Harlem.

Officers watched as Perales leaned into a car window and completed a drug transaction.

Investigators said as police approached him, Perales attempted to flee but officers were able to surround him.

Police at the scene were told by dispatch that Perales had an outstanding warrant with the City of Waco and one with McLennan County and he was taken into custody on those warrants.

As officers searched him subsequent to the arrest, they found an amount of what they believed to be crack cocaine in his pockets.

A lab test performed later confirmed the substance was cocaine and weighed more than 34 grams.

Police also found a digital scale in his pockets that later tested positive for residue of cocaine.

Police also seized $448 and a cellular telephone.
