WACO (July 3, 2014) An outbreak of norovirus at the Waco VA Medical Center has eased, but has forced the hospital to cancel some Fourth of July Events.

The virus causes stomach and intestinal inflammation and results in vomiting, diarrhea and fever.

Access to the medical center has been restricted since the virus was discovered on June 21, spokesman Bobby Zimmerman said.

At the peak of the outbreak, 41 patients showed symptoms and tests confirmed that two had the illness and one remains actively infected.

The hospital canceled a barbecue and a bingo game planned for Friday because of the virus, but Zimmerman said they would be rescheduled.
