WACO (February 7, 2013)—An off-duty officer who became suspicious when someone arrived at a local recycling business Thursday morning with several new and used batteries to sell as scrap alerted on-duty officers who discovered the batteries had been stolen.
Acting on the information, patrol officers began to canvass the city to find from where the batteries had been taken and discovered that batteries had been removed overnight from three boats, a car and a camper at a business in the 3500 block of Franklin Avenue.
The batteries were worth about $1,000, but the person who sold them from scrap got only about $100, police said.
The batteries were returned to the business.
Police are looking for the person who sold them.
