WACO (March 1, 2013)—Waco police officers heading in for duty on the night shift heard other officers working on a purse snatching and were in the right place at the right time to make an arrest.

Edward Ball, 19, was ordered held in lieu of bonds totaling $34,000, charged with theft from a person, possession of controlled substance and a motion to adjudicate guilt on an earlier possession of controlled substance probation.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said a woman called police just after 10:40 p.m. Thursday to report that a man approached her while she was in her car near North 13th Street and Waco Drive and stole her purse.

The 23-year-old woman began following the man in her car, but he soon jumped a fence and disappeared.

Officers were sent to the scene and were searching the area, while other officers who were headed in for the night shift also fanned out and were able to find a man matching the description provided by the victim at a home in the 600 block of North 14th Street.
