WACO (March 5, 2013)— Steven Walker Webb, 21, was in the McLennan County Jail Tuesday evening, charged with theft over $50, possession of less than 5 ounces of marijuana and resisting arrest after an incident earlier in the day that left a Waco police officer injured.

He was ordered held in lieu of bonds totaling $7,000.

The injured officer suffered a broken wrist Tuesday morning while he and other officers attempted to arrest a sword-wielding man who was reported to have stolen items including the 4-foot sword from the Smoke Shop at 1402 N. 34th Street.

When officers arrived, they found the man near the intersection of Edmond Avenue and Brook Circle.

When they ordered him to drop the sword, he refused, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said, and officers were ultimately forced to use a Taser to subdue him.

The injured officer was taken to an unidentified medical facility for treatment and will be unable to work for an unspecified length of time.

His name was not released.
