WACO (December 13, 2013) A Waco man was held Friday in the McLennan County Jail facing robbery charges after a security guard was attacked while trying to detain a shoplifter at a local department store.

Tadarius Davaion Rountree, 21, was facing an aggravated robbery charge in connection with the Thursday afternoon incident.

Bond had not been set Friday morning.

Just after 1 p.m. Thursday a loss prevention security officer at Sears, in the Richland Mall, confronted a man who was leaving the store that the officer believed had not paid for some merchandise he was carrying.

When the officer tried to stop the man, the suspect began fighting with him, struck him in the face and left the officer with abrasions and other injuries, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

When Waco police arrived they identified the suspect and arrested him for aggravated robbery because when he began fighting with the officer, the shoplifting charge was enhanced to an aggravated robbery, Swanton said.
