WACO (March 15, 2013)--More than 100 science researchers were meeting this weekend on the Baylor University campus in Waco to share their ideas and learn how to work together better.
"This is a huge opportunity for all institutions (including) Scott & White Hospital, Baylor, Texas A&M and the Baylor Healthcare system in Dallas" said Dr. Richard Bestwick, chief of research at Scott & White Healthcare.
“To be able to say ‘hey, I'm going to get out, work with a group that's doing the same exact research as mine and advance the research’ will advance more research,” Bestwick said.
That collaboration is expected to help them acquire new research funding from the government.
“Getting infrastructures together and working with other institutions, helps us in the long run be viable for more external funding,” Baylor University Vice Provost for Research Dr. Truell Hyde said.
Baylor Chemistry Professor Dr. Patrick Farmer came up with the collaboration idea two years ago and says he hopes scientists can better learn to communicate with each other.
“I expect to introduce researchers from the different institutions that are working the same area and mingle and talk about possible ways of collaboration,” he said. “That's really the intent of this is to establish collaboration."
