WACO (July 25, 2013)--A Waco woman was held Thursday in the McLennan County Jail after what police said was an attempt to run down her 83-year-old father.

Melissa Makovy Burch, 47, was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bond charged with injury to an elderly individual, online jail records showed.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said officers were sent at about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Bosque Boulevard and Rambler Drive after callers reported that a man and a woman were fighting inside a truck.

Swanton said when officers arrived they found an 83-year-old man lying in the street who had been run over by the pickup truck.

Police determined the man stopped the truck and tried to get out because the woman was hitting him, and as he did, the woman slid behind the wheel and tried to drive off, in the process running the man down.

Swanton said the man was taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with what he described as significant injuries.

Burch was arrested at the scene.
