WACO (June 18, 2014) Waco Fire Department responded to a fire at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church off Highway 6 after 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Six units were at the scene shortly after the call came in.
According to fire chief Chris Pechacek, firefighters had the bulk of the fire knocked down within 5 minutes.
It was out completely by 9:25 p.m.
Pechacek believes the cause was an electrical shortage in an air conditioner unit in a mechanical closet.
After the fire started, it rose to the ceiling and spread through the attic.
About half of the building suffered heavy smoke damage.
The church's sanctuary was left undamaged.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
The overall structural integrity of the building was not compromised.
