WACO (September 17, 2012)--H-E-B customers statewide broke a record by raising $444,500 to feed the hungry, benefitting 15 Texas Food Banks.
Caritas will receive $4,500 of the money raised.
Tear-off coupons in the amounts of $1, $3 and $5 were located at checkout stands where customers could add the desired donation amount to their final grocery bill.
The campaign ran from May 9 to July 15.
According to an H-E-B spokesperson, more than 15,750 meals will be made available to hungry Waco residents.
This year’s total money raised surpassed last year’s campaign by $80,200.
The check will be delivered to Caritas on Thursday.
