WACO (February 14, 2013)--Waco has been ranked 8th in the state for their solar use, according to a new Environment Texas Research and Policy Center report.
The report cites Waco as one step behind Fort Worth in its solar energy usage with San Antonio and Austin ranked first respectively.
Information used to compile the report was provided by a variety of Texas energy companies that measure the amount of solar energy usage in residences, businesses and utility-scale installations across the state.
The statistics come on the heels of new legislation that pushes to expand solar to the rest of the state.
Some of the legislation introduced includes requiring that 35 percent of Texas’ electricity come from renewable sources by 2020 with at least two percent from solar energy as well as requiring homebuilders to offer solar energy as a standard option to their customers.
Texas ranks 13th in the nation for installed solar, Director of Environment Texas Luke Metzger said.
