WACO (March 5, 2013)-With swift approval, the Waco city council approved a measure that creates a City Marshal's Office.
The marshal will work solely for the municipal court.
The move is aimed to provide better security for the court, its employees, and citizens.
The city court does not have a bailiff or metal detectors as other courts around the state do.
Currently, a warrant officer from the city police department provides security for the court.
City officials say, creating this new department will free up the warrant officer so his or her can return to their normal duty which entails serving warrants.
Money from the court's building security fund will pay for the new department.
That fund is made up of more than 400-thousand dollars from court fees.
