WACO (March 8, 2013)--A 60-mph speed limit will be enforced in some areas along I-35 to cut down on traffic accidents.
The lower speed limit applies to areas where there is an overnight mainlane closure and in areas where concrete traffic barriers have been placed on both sides of the mainlanes leaving less than a 10-foot shoulder for a length of 1 mile or more.
The 60-mph speed has already gone into effect including a four-mile stretch through Salado and a 10-mile section near West.
New warning devices will also be in place including an end-of-queue warning system that measures traffic speed and alerts drivers of the traffic condition ahead.
Temporary horizontal rumble strips will be placed in some areas to warn drivers to slow down.
TxDOT reminds drivers to always wear seatbelts and drive with caution, especially in construction zones.
