WACO (August 23, 2013)--More than 2 million in grants will be available to 10 rural campuses in eight districts across the region for afterschool programs.

The Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) Grant awarded to ESC Region 12 will provide $2.2 million per year over the next 5 years to establish community learning centers at schools with at least 40 percent economically disadvantaged student populations.

Besides academics, the centers will offer activities like martial arts, culinary arts, art, quilting, robotics and more.

The Center Project Plan will focus on attendance, behavior, and graduation rates as they work to increase opportunities available to students.

The grant will allow ESC Region 12 to employ a project director, 10 school site coordinators and a family involvement specialist.

The schools served by the program include: Connally Elementary and Connally High, Covington School, Dawson Elementary, Groesbeck Elementary and Groesbeck Middle, Holland Elementary, A.B. McBay Elementary, Moody Middle and Valley Mills Elementary.
