WACO (September 24, 2012)--The public is invited to Ceasar Chavez Middle School Tuesday where a guest speaker will highlight the importance of school discipline.
Contributing writer of “Breaking Schools’ Rules: A Statewide Study on How School Discipline Relates to Students’ Success and Juvenile Justice Involvement” Miner P. Marchbanks will be in the school cafeteria to give a presentation on his findings.
Attendees will learn terms and data related to disciplinary actions by race and ethnicity, the effects of classroom removal on misbehaving students’ academic performance, their potential involvement in the juvenile justice system and how disciplinary actions relate to the social determinants of health, a school spokesperson said.
The meeting is in collaboration with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Center for the Elimination of Disproportionality and Disparities, Waco Disproportionality Advisory Board and Waco ISD.
The report will take place form 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
The school is located at 2600 Bagby.
