WACO (October 5, 2013) -- The Waco Family Abuse Center has been given a grant from the non-profit organization, Kaboom!, that builds playgrounds for children across the country.

Kaboom! has teamed up with Blue Cross Blue Shield to fund the project, although the shelter will have to pay for ten percent of it.

Children living at the shelter were able to design their own dream playground and give their artwork to officials from Kaboom!.

The organization also asked parent's opinions on what the playground should feature.

Now Kaboom! is taking the children's drawings and the parent's input and designing a customized playground to build for the abuse center.

December 14th is Build Day, where 250 volunteers will help build the customized playground for the shelter in one day.

To sign up to volunteer, email Amy Reagan at Amy.Reagan@familyabusecenter.org.

Also if you would like to donate to the shelter, they accept checks sent to their P.O. Box 20395 in Waco or you can drop off donations at their thrift store, Second Chance, on the corner of Bosque and New Road.
