WACO (January 16, 2013)--“26 Weeks to Preparedness,” a guide compiled by nonprofit Mercury One Waco, hopes to equip local residents with the tools to confront a natural disaster.
The information campaign involves the basic FEMA guidelines for preparing a 72-hour kit for use in emergencies, and also gives families practical information through the social media site Facebook.
The group posts once a week, every Monday, for 26 weeks.
“The Family Disaster Supplies Calendar is intended to help you prepare for disasters before they happen. Using the calendar, your family can assemble an emergency kit in small increments over a six-month period. Check off each week as you gather the contents. As room permits, allocate a certain area in your home to store your food and supplies,” founder Joel Johnson posted on the group’s Facebook page.
They remind people to rotate their perishable supplies and water every six months.
