Waco: Man Faces Drug Charge After Fatal Vehicle Crash

WACO (March 8, 2013)—A Waco man had posted bond and been released from the McLennan County Jail on a possession of methamphetamine charge after he was arrested following a fatal vehicle crash Tuesday in Waco.

McLennan County Jail records Friday showed Richard Angel Garcia, 24, posted a $5,000 bond Wednesday and was released.

Garcia has not been charged in connection with the wreck, records showed.

Garcia was the driver of one of the vehicles involved Tuesday evening in a fatal crash that claimed the life of Melissa Ann Fields, 33, according to Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton.

Fields was pronounced dead at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday at the scene of the accident at North 22nd Street and Olive Avenue.

Fields was driving a 2003 Hyundai Elantra west on Olive when a 2004 Ford Expedition that was southbound on North. 22nd Street collided with the car, Swanton said.

The driver of the SUV failed to yield right of way, Swanton said.

Fields was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

McLennan County Justice of the Peace Pete Peterson ordered an autopsy.

The driver of the SUV, whom police identified as Garcia, was injured in the crash.

He was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and later taken to jail.
