WACO (February 22, 2013)—Residents will have a chance to expand their knowledge of motorcycle safety Monday at a forum held at McLennan Community College.

Every year the forum is held at different locations across the state and will be held in the Emergency Services Education Center this year.

On average, more than 100 riders, law enforcement personnel, educators, TxDOT employees and residents come out to hear a diverse group of speakers, listen to presentations and come up with plans to increase motorcycle awareness.

Some of the ideas that transpired from last year’s forum include working more closely with bars to promote motorcycle safety, adding “Share the Road” bumper stickers on city, state and county law enforcement vehicles and useing more yard signs, hang tags and campaigns to spread the message.

The forum lasts from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and attendees can register when doors open prior to the event.

Dress is casual and lunch can be purchased for $10.

The forum is free to the public.

According to TxDOT, there were 10,359 motorcyclist fatalities in 2011.

The statistics include passengers.
