WACO (September 24, 2012)-One Book One Waco will host a panel discussion at 7 p.m. on Tuesday for its 2012 book selection.
Carlton Stowers' book "Where Dreams Die Hard: A Small American Town and its Six-man Football Team" tells the story of the small town of Penelope which has a population of 211.
The book is not only about Texas high school football, but small town life with observations on what it means to come together as a community, a spokesperson for the organization said.
Community leaders will reflect on the book and the panel will be moderated by David Smoak of ESPN Central Texas.
Texas State Technical College President and Penelope native Dr. Elton Stuckly will be on the panel along with Baylor's Director of Media Communications, Lori Fogleman.
Other panel members are Waco Tribune-Herald sports writer Brice Cherry and Penelope ISD Athletic Director Corey McAdams.
The panel discussion will be held at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, located at 1108 South University Parks Drive.
In addition to the panel discussion, a second book event is slated for October 23.
Author Carlton Stowers will hold a special book signing event at 7 p.m. at University High School.
The community is invited to attend both events.
One Book One Waco is a community-wide reading program that promotes reading and thoughtful discussion to bring Waco residents together and encourage community participation.
