WACO (October 6, 2013) -- The Heart of Texas Fair is in full swing and the rodeo portion of the event has begun.

Contestants from across the country have come to Waco to compete not only for a championship, but also to put on a good show for Central Texans.

They will compete in the seven traditional rodeo events all week long: tie down roping, bare back riding, steer wrestiling, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, team roping and mutton busting.

Riders will compete each night this week leading up to the finals on Saturday.

The top nine contestants from each event will compete Saturday and be weeded down to four contestants.

Those four will compete again to become the rodeo champions.

"You're going to see the best in the business, qualified to come into our pro rodeo finals and we're excited about having a great week of rodeo," says President and CEO of the H.O.T. Fair and Rodeo, Wes Allison.
