WACO (September 24, 2012)--The Waco Police Department’s Victim Services Unit has been internationally recognized by IACP and Login, Inc. for their on scene crisis intervention to victims of crime and their families.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police recognize law enforcement agencies that best exemplify an organizational philosophy of placing victims at the center of their problem-solving efforts, utilizing effective partnerships, using successful training methods and utilizing performance monitoring tools to enhance response to victims of crime.

The 2012 Excellence in Victim Services Award recognized one winner from three agency categories, determined by the number of sworn-in officers.

The small agency winner was Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia, Waco police won in the medium agency category, while Arlington Police won in the large agency category.

“All law enforcement agencies worldwide (private corporations or individuals are excluded) can compete for the award by demonstrating that an innovative approach in meeting the needs of crime victims within their communities has been created, and has either been or is in the process of being fully implemented into the agency,” the IACP website states.

The goal of the Waco Police Department's Victim Services Unit is to ensure that each victim’s needs are addressed by establishing a continuous relationship with them as they progress through the phases of recovery.

All winners will be recognized at the IACP's 119th annual conference in San Diego on October 1.

The trip includes complimentary conference registration, transportation costs, three nights of hotel lodging, and meals during the stay for one representative of each agency.
