WACO (January 7, 2013)--Waco resident and Texas A&M Forest Service Firefighter Doug Spence has spent the last two weeks in New York aiding Hurricane Sandy victims.

Spence serves on the Killeen-based Heart of Texas Task Force and is one of 39 Lone Star State Incident Management Team members coordinating the Army National Guard’s effort to provide relief to victims of the hurricane that hit the northeastern states in October.

To date, the Army National Guard has visited more than 102,000 households and provided more than 6,200 blankets to those affected.

More than 40,000 meals, 3,000 cases of water and 600 electric heaters have helped to ensure residents in the Big Apple have a warm and comfortable place to stay.

Spence is scheduled to return to the area January 17.
