WACO (October 12, 2013) -- The Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo held their 23rd Annual Special Ranch Rodeo today.

Children who are physically and mentally challenged were invited out to the coliseum to participate in rodeo activities alongside professional athletes.

After a brief introduction, families were able to go from station to station and let their children try out the different activities.

They were able to do some horseback riding as well as simulations for bull riding and calf roping.

Rodeo clowns were also in attendance for children to take pictures with and also experience what it's like to hide in their barrels.

There were also play horses for kids to take through the barrel racing obstacle course as well as a tractor hay ride.

Andy Horn, who is a sponsor for the event says, he enjoys putting on this event every year for the kids to give them a little taste of the rodeo up close and in the dirt.

Parents say they're thankful for an event like this because it gives their children a day to do things that other kids can do on a daily basis.

"For some of these kids that are wheelchair bound or they're not able to get out very much, this is great because it gives them an opportunity to experience something new," says Joddy Copp who has a special needs son.
