WACO (December 13, 2013)

Waco police on Friday morning were investigating a stabbing that was reported outside a Family Dollar store in North Waco.

Police were sent at around 8:50 a.m. to the Family Dollar store at 1404 North 34th St. after a man reported he had been stabbed in the back, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Swanton said the victim and his wife were inside the store when a man approached them and began touching the woman inappropriately.

The man and the woman’s husband got into a verbal argument inside the store that soon went outside and became physical, Swanton said.

During the disagreement one of the men pulled out a knife and began stabbing the other in the back.

After the suspect learned someone had called police, he fled the scene.

When officers arrived they called for an ambulance to attend to the victim’s wounds.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening wounds, Swanton said.

A short time later and a short distance away on Brooks Circle, responding officers located the suspect, later identified as Henry Stanchiel, 42, and arrested him.

Stanchiel was awaiting booking at noon at the McLennan County Jail, records showed.

The woman involved was not injured, Swanton said.
