WACO (January 16, 2014) A Waco woman pleaded guilty Thursday to trying to use counterfeit bills to send a wire money transfer.

U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith set Patricia Lee Rodriguez for sentencing on March 12.

Federal documents filed at the time of her guilty plea show Rodriguez attempted to send a wire money transfer at a local Western Union office and tried to pay for the transfer with eight counterfeit $100 bills.

Employees at the officer notified Beverly Hills police of the transaction and when officers responded they took Rodriguez into custody.

A subsequent search of her home turned up more counterfeit $100 bills, the document said.

Rodriguez told agents she was working for a Nigerian company and was doing payroll for them using cash she received in the mail.

She initially claimed she did not know the money was counterfeit, but during a search of her home agents not only turned up counterfeit U.S. currency, but bogus Euros, as well.
