WACO (April 2, 2013)--With one click of a button you could help a local special needs child win a much-needed wheelchair van.

15-year-old Nicholas Stricklen, of Bellmead, is not able to attend school because he has special needs, is legally blind, cannot walk and has to be fed through a tube.

His private nurse, Linda Bates, has entered him into a contest that would help mobilize Nicholas through the use of a wheelchair van.

National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association is sponsoring the contest in which they will give away three of the vans based on the number of votes for each contestant’s picture.

“Now that he’s getting older I cannot lift him anymore. His dad has to get off of work and come to wherever we are to lift him out of his wheelchair,” Bates said.

Stricklen is one of two Central Texas residents competing, according to a location search.

“We got started a little late so I’m hopeful we can get the word out,” Bates said.

A vote can be cast once per day per IP address.

The last day to vote is May 10.
