WACO (July 18, 2012)-A man whose pickup truck crashed into a utility pole early Tuesday morning was arrested after officers determined he was wanted in connection with a string of auto break-ins.

Jay Robert Gaffga, 25, was ordered held on bonds totaling $30,000, charged with three counts of burglary of a motor vehicle, theft, criminal mischief, felony DWI and driving with an invalid license.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said at about 5:35 a.m. Tuesday officers were sent to the 4700 block of West Lake Shore Drive where a resident had reported seeing a man breaking into vehicles in a parking lot.

As officers were investigating that report, another officer at around 6 a.m. rolled up on a traffic accident at Cobbs Drive and New Road that involved a pickup truck that had collided with a utility pole.

The officer investigating the traffic accident noticed some items in the back of the truck that had been reported stolen from the Lake Shore incident.

After verification of the items, the second officer arrested Gaffga at the scene and recovered several pieces of property
