WACO (May 22, 2012)--The Better Business Bureau is reporting an uptick in asphalt paving scams in which unscrupulous contractors may offer bargain prices if residents pay in advance, but often leave the job unfinished or perform sub-par work.

Since January, the BBB has provided more than 2,300 business reviews to consumers on local paving companies, the organization said.

Some red flags to look for include discounted prices because materials are left over from another job, pressure to make a quick decision, requests for cash payments and paving companies that are from out of state, the BBB said.

Residents are encouraged to look at the vehicle used by the contractor and use caution if the vehicle is unmarked or has an out-of-state license plate.
