WEST (July 1, 2013)—Crews began the process of demolishing damaged buildings at West Middle School Monday.
The buildings were destroyed in the April 17 explosion at West Fertilizer Co. that left 15 dead, about 200 injured and damaged or destroyed dozens of homes and buildings.
The Grand Prairie and Mansfield Independent School Districts have donated portable buildings to the West ISD, which will be used to house students when the new school year begins.
The portable buildings should be ready when teachers report in mid-August, the district said.
Three of the district’s four schools were damaged in the explosion.
The West School Board voted last week to approve demolition of the Intermediate School and damaged buildings at the Middle School.
