West: Volunteers Needed To Help Repair Explosion-Damaged Homes

WEST (February 19, 2014) The West Long Term Recovery Center has added a construction manager to its staff and is looking for volunteers to help repair homes damaged in the deadly April 17, 2013 fertilizer plant explosion.

John Raimer came to West from Florida “and brings significant amount of work experience in construction management, volunteer management, and reconstruction in disaster situations as well as a renewed spirit,” said West, TX Foundation Executive Director Suzanne Hack in a press release Wednesday.

During his first week in West, Raimer coordinated a volunteer team from Iowa and evaluated seven damaged homes, repair work on three of which is now underway.

Five more homes have since been evaluated and are awaiting repairs, Hack said.

Raimer is looking for a variety of skilled workers willing to volunteer over spring break from March 8 to March 22, she said.

Anyone who’s interested in helping should call (254) 315-1387 or email Raimer at johnr@westltr.org.
