WEST (May 3, 2013)--City of West residents will spend Saturday and Sunday cleaning up their homes and properly disposing of hazardous waste.

Five gallon containers or less of household cleaners, paint-related products, aerosol cans, lawn and garden fertilizers/pesticides/herbicides, automotive products like oil/gasoline/filters/anti-freeze, batteries, mercury-filled items, pool chemicals, small cylinders, roofing tars and materials containing asbestos will all be accepted.

Prohibited items include: radioactive materials, explosives, 55-gallon drums of waste, medical and pharmaceutical items, phones, electronics, large appliances, commercial business waste and municipal trash.

The city asks that residents not mix or consolidate products, bring items in original containers (if possible) and properly seal all containers to prevent leaking.

From 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. West residents only will be able to dispose of the acceptable items at 1329 North Davis Street.

The waste collection site will be in the parking lot west of the nursing home.

Residents will be required to present their ID that proves their city residence.
