West: Softball Coach Guyla Smith Celebrates 500th Win With Trojans Friday

WEST (March 8, 2013)--West Trojans Softball Coach Guyla Smith will be honored for her 500th win at a home game Friday night.

The team currently ranks 22nd in the state according to MaxPreps.com, a CBS-affiliated sports website for high school sports.

Smith’s record includes a total of 508 wins, 149 losses and 1 tie, according to Assistant Softball Coach Melissa Huffhines.

Smith hit her 500th game win at a tournament in Gatesville against Robinson and her team, family and friends will gather shortly before Friday's game for a short ceremony.

“She started with the school district 1989 and started up the softball program in 1991. All of her wins have occurred during her tenure with the West Lady Trojans,” Huffhines said.

Smith has led the West Lady Trojans to the state championships five times.

The coach will receive a quilt made out of tee shirts from her more than 20 years of coaching.

The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. at home against Gatesville.
